Maintain good oral health in between checkups with hygiene treatments

  • Regular hygienist visits help minimise plaque build up and gum problems
  • Penrose Dental uses modern technology for quick and painless cleaning
  • Learn better techniques for oral care at home

Visiting our hygienist is an important part of your oral care routine

Alongside regular checkups with your dentist, possibly the most important part of dental care is active maintenance. We have scheduled hygiene programmes at periodic intervals for all our patients to help you keep your whole mouth healthy.

As we get older and the mouth runs up more mileage with eating, chewing and growing germs it deteriorates without exception unless it is actively maintained. Unfortunately tooth structure, gums and jawbones can never grow back if any is lost to disease. By the time symptoms are felt it is already too late. Even with modern dentistry such as fillings, dental crowns and dental implants to fix or replace anything that is lost, it is rarely better than what was given naturally.

Our hygienist Kiran, will help you keep your teeth and gums healthy and can offer advice on best practice for cleaning at home. Kiran can also help you with an at-home teeth whitening programme if you would like to improve the colour of your teeth.

Penrose Dental uses modern technology for better results and more comfortable clean

At Penrose Dental we are always looking for ways to make your dental appointments less stressful and more comfortable. At our hygienist appointments we've introduced new technology - the EMS AIRFLOW®.

AIRFLOW® uses a controlled stream with a mixture of air, warm water and a very fine powder which is sprayed onto the tooth and hard to reach areas. This helps to dislodge particles of food and plaque which are stuck on or between the teeth, without the hygienist needing to scrape. It can also help to remove discolouration and stains.

The water is heated which makes it more comfortable for people with sensitive teeth and it can also be used for people with braces, dentures or implants.

If you have hard calculus on or around your teeth, our hygienist will use the EMS ultrasonic machine to remove it. However, using the AIRFLOW® prior to this makes the procedure quicker and easier.

Find out just how clean, or otherwise, your teeth are with a guided biofilm therapy session

Dental plaque contains a host of bacteria which if left untreated can spread and create biofilm. Biofilm is a colony of bacteria that can cause serious gum disease.

During this session our hygienist will apply a coloured dye to your teeth. This reveals where all the plaque and biofilm is. You'll then get a lesson on how to care for your teeth and gums to avoid a build up in future. The dye helps to clearly show areas that you may be missing with your toothbrush or flossing.

Once the session is finished, the coloured dye and the plaque on your teeth are removed using our AIRFLOW system and the EMS ultrasonic if required.
