Get rid of unsightly stains and discolouration with professional teeth whitening from Penrose Dental

Sometimes your teeth are perfectly aligned but marks or discolouration lets your smile down. Genetics does play a part in the colour of your teeth, but lifestyle choices like smoking or drinking can also make your teeth dull or stained. Teeth whitening is a great option for anyone looking to have a brighter smile. Although teeth whitening is not suitable for all patients, most people can undertake the procedure with no issues.

If you are considering other cosmetic treatment like veneers or restorative work like dental crowns or implants we recommend whitening your teeth first, so your replacement tooth can be matched to the new colour.

We offer two main types of teeth whitening

In office teeth whitening

When you opt to have your teeth whitened in our office, the procedure is straightforward and easily accomplished by our professionally trained staff in around about an hour.

Because our staff take care of the whole process for you, it's a bit more costly than a take home option. The upside is that you can carry on with your life as normal, without any repetition of treatment at home or avoidance of staining food and drink.

Take home teeth whitening

Kiran, our hygienist, can work with you to put together an effective at-home teeth whitening kit for you. We'll take impressions so your whitening trays are custom made to fit your mouth for better results.

You'll also receive a supply of high-quality whitening gel and clear instructions on how to apply it. Used properly each day, you should start to see results in around a week to 10 days.

This is a cost effective way to brighten your smile.

Whitening for a dead tooth

What happens if you get a knock to the mouth that results in such severe damage to your tooth's root, that the tooth darkens and "goes dead"? Can tooth whitening help in that situation?

The good news is that there is a variation on our standard tooth whitening procedure that can remove the darkening from the dead tooth. It is generally a painless, two visit process that involves bleaching the inside of the tooth, rather than the outside, as in standard tooth whitening.

Teeth whitening vs veneers

Both teeth whitening and veneers offer a whiter, brighter smile. While at home or in-office teeth whitening is relatively cost-effective, it does need to be repeated every so often, depending on your lifestyle choices.

On the other hand, veneers never stain and last far longer than whitening procedures. That said, applying a veneer irrevocably changes the shape of any tooth to which they are applied. This can be a good thing because it makes a nice alternative to orthodontic work for minor cosmetic correction but it is a lifetime commitment.
