Your care
Find out whether your tooth can be saved
Choosing the right treatment starts with understanding your tooth. We’ll discuss whether it can be saved, explain why extraction may be recommended and explain the expected cost.
If removal is the right option, we use local anaesthetic and check your comfort throughout. You’ll know what to expect, have time to ask questions and receive guidance tailored to your treatment.
When might a tooth need removing?
- Decay or damage that leaves a tooth beyond repair.
- Advanced gum disease affecting a tooth’s support.
- Wisdom teeth causing pain or recurring problems.
- Overcrowding where removal forms part of an orthodontic plan.

Assessment and advice
We examine the tooth, take X-rays if needed and discuss your options, treatment plan and costs.
Comfort during treatment
Local anaesthetic numbs the area before removal. We explain what’s happening and check how you’re feeling.
Care after removal
We explain what to expect afterwards and discuss follow-up care or tooth replacement options where appropriate.
Will having a tooth removed hurt?
Local anaesthetic numbs the area. You may feel pressure or movement, but you should not feel sharp pain. If you do, tell your dentist straight away so they can stop and check your comfort. Some soreness afterwards is normal; we’ll explain how to manage it.
What if I’m really nervous?
Tell us when you book, even if you’re not sure how to explain it. Whether it’s the injection, a previous experience or not knowing what will happen, knowing your concern helps us support you. Ask us to agree on a signal if you need a pause.
Can my tooth be saved instead?
Sometimes. An examination and, where needed, X-rays help us assess whether a filling, crown or root canal treatment could help. We’ll explain why removal is being considered, the alternatives and what each option involves.
How much time will I need to recover?
Recovery depends on the tooth, the type of extraction and your health. You may need time to rest, especially after a surgical extraction. Ask us about work, exercise and eating before your appointment so you can plan ahead.
